Pet Sematary Has Screened, Here Are The Early Reactions

Sometimes dead is better, but not better than getting an early chance to see the new Pet Sematary movie. The 2019 Stephen King adaptation premiered Saturday night, March 16 at South by Southwest, giving lucky critics and fans a first look at the horror movie before it opens wide in the U.S. on April 5.

So far, it sounds like Pet Sematary is a big win. The film highly impressed many viewers, including CinemaBlend's own Sean O'Connell, although he admitted he missed a few little things from Stephen King's original story:

Collier's Perri Nemiroff absolutely raved about the movie, praising directors Kevin Klsch and Dennis Widmyer, along with young star Jet Laurence as Ellie Creed.

Erik Davis of Fandango praised the film, adding that it should please fans of Stephen King's novel. He also pushed Captain Marvel's Goose out of the way to make room for Pet Sematary's Church -- as if what we really need isn't a buddy movie starring both cats.

Take me to Church! Chris Evangelista of /Film also noted that Pet Sematary isn't 100% faithful to Stephen King's novel, but that didn't damage his opinion of the movie at all. He called it one of the best King adaptations to date.

Some fans at home -- myself included, I'll admit -- have worried the Pet Sematary trailers may have given away the entire story. Critics like Heather Wixson of Daily Dead tried to put those fears to rest, adding expectations of some major twists.

Since we're talking about a horror film, Meredith Borders of Fangoria emphasized that it delivers on one major requirement -- scares.

Stephen King published Pet Sematary in 1983, and a horror movie adaptation was first released in 1989. We already know from the trailers that this film makes one semi-big change to the source material, but apparently there are more changes ahead.

The 2019 adaptation stars Jason Clarke as Louis Creed, Amy Seimetz as Rachel Creed, John Lithgow as Jud Crandall, Jet Laurence as Ellie Creed, and both young Hugo Lavoie and Lucas Lavoie as Gage Creed.

Pet Sematary opens opposite DC's Shazam!, which will be some serious competition at the box office. Early estimates put Pet Sematary's opening anywhere from $20 million to $30 million at the domestic North American market. The movie could skew higher after all of these rave reviews -- including promises of secrets not revealed in the trailers -- driving more curious fans to the theater.

Chris Pratt And More Celebrities Have Screened Crazy Rich Asians, Heres What They Think

Last Wednesday saw the release of Crazy Rich Asians, the cinematic adaptation of Kevin Kwan's novel of the same name, as well as the first Hollywood production to star an all-Asian cast in over two decades. Along with exceeding its commercial expectations, the movie has been met with widespread critical praise, and it has a lot of celebrities in its corner. Over the last few days, folks in the entertainment industry have been dishing out praise for Crazy Rich Asians, like Chris Pratt, who commended the movie while simultaneously taking a subtle shot at the two movies he's starred in this year, Avengers: Infinity War and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Aquaman director James Wan dropped even more praise on Crazy Rich Asians, noting how nice it was to see a whole cast that looked like him in a Hollywood movie for the first time, and he made sure to compliment actors Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Michelle Yeoh, and well as director John M. Chu, in a follow-up tweet.

Over in the music industry, pop star Justin Bieber let his followers know to catch Crazy Rich Asians in theaters, and also congratulated John M. Chu on the finished product.

Back in acting land, Ocean's 8 star Mindy Kaling congratulated Crazy Rich Asians for its theatrical performance after five days, noting how it combined two of her favorite things.

Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin also threw his praise for Crazy Rich Asians into the mix, as well as thanked the people who bought a ticket to the movie over the weekend.

Finally, Shadowhunters star Katherine McNamara congratulated Crazy Rich Asians for its commercial performance as well, as it's made over $34 million domestically so far.

Along with the previously mentioned actors, Crazy Rich Asians' includes Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, Ken Jeong, Nico Santos and Ronny Chieng, among many others. The original book was the first story in a trilogy, and while nothing is official yet, there has already talk about making a sequel based on the second novel, China Rich Girlfriend (with Rich People Problems being the final installment).

In this summer's blockbuster hit Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, fans were struck with an ending that has undoubtedly raised the stakes going into the Jurassic World franchise. Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) now have a significantly more challenging role that expanded past keeping attendees at a theme park safe. Earth as we know it will be dealing with the consequences of the power rich scientists who have brought dinosaurs back into the world. Since the upcoming Jurassic World installment is set to close out the trilogy, the pair might need some help from some of the original characters from Jurassic Park, and Howard is hoping to work alongside them. Here's what the actress is would like to see from Jurassic World 3:

I'm hoping to see Dr. Ian Malcolm [Jeff Goldblum] in the flesh, in person. Because Claire never interacts with Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. I mean, honestly, a little bit in the way that Jurassic World blew your mind in terms of, 'Oh my gosh, the park is now open,' and Jurassic Park blew your mind because you're like, 'Oh my gosh, those are real dinosaurs.' I want for the third Jurassic World to be able to blow your mind in terms of being like, 'Whoa, this is where this technology can go. This is what the world could really turn into if this technology fell into the wrong hands.' So basically seeing a world with dinosaurs everywhere.

Any chance to work alongside the likes of the now iconic Jeff Goldblum is certainly a dream come true. While Goldblum was technically in Fallen Kingdom, his role was more of a cameo that had him schooling the media on the gravity of the situation at hand. Many fans would love to see Goldblum back in action with the new characters as dinosaurs charge at their feet. Dr. Ian Malcolm is best known for his hilarious quips, and considering the drama to come, we might need a few doses of it in Jurassic World 3. With a new generation of dinos out in the wild, some of which created specifically to be stealthy killing machines, the film will definitely won't be anything like the "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride, that's for sure.

Along with her words to Brit + Co, Bryce Dallas Howard has already said that the plan for Jurassic World 3 is to bring the entire saga together, including the first trilogy, hinting at the potential return of more original characters. Besides seeing more of Dr. Ian Malcolm, Howard also previously threw out her desire to see Laura Dern come back as Dr. Ellie Sattler. The actress is also an iconic Hollywood legend thanks to her performance in Jurassic World and to see her character return to help out and bring closure to her character would be a movie not to miss.
