Jeff Goldblum Wants The Grandmaster To Team Up With The Collector
With Thor: Ragnarok out on Blu-ray, there's no better time to relive the glory that is Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster. Goldblum is a constant source of laughs throughout the movie and seems to be having a blast. Good thing then that the character is still on the playing field, and thus available to show up once again in a future MCU movie. The MCU allows any combination of characters to team-up and if he had his choice, Goldblum would love to share a scene with The Collector, played by Benicio del Toro. According to Goldblum...
But, in the comic books, the character of the Grandmaster is the brother of The Collector, played by Benicio del Toro, who I adore. So I would enjoy doing something with him. That would be fun.
While never directly addressed in the MCU movies thus far, Grandmaster is the brother of Collector in the comics. Both of them are Elders of the Universe, near-immortal beings who have a fascination in particular little niches. The Collector, for example, is obsessed with collecting things and Grandmaster is obsessed with manipulating lives to compete in death games. (Everybody needs a hobby). In the comics, the two have a longstanding sibling rivalry, often using Earth as the chess board for their weird competitions. However, a line has not been drawn connecting them in the MCU movies yet, though there are other places where the connection is made, such as a painting that hangs inside the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission- Breakout theme park attraction at Disney's California Adventure, that shows the pair together.
In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Jeff Goldblum was asked with Marvel character he'd like to team-up with in the future. Goldblum answered that he would enjoy doing something with Benicio del Toro's Collector, who made his debut in Guardians of the Galaxy (technically it was Thor: The Dark World, but whatever). It would definitely be fun to see the two characters together at some point, but given that Collector has the Reality Stone, the chances that he makes it out of Avengers: Infinity War alive seems pretty slim.
It's also worth noting that Goldblum also called out Cate Blanchett as someone he wants to work with again. The two didn't have any overlap in Thor: Ragnarok, but Goldblum previously worked with her on The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and he said he'd "love to do anything with her." Blanchett played Hela in Ragnarok and, though it looks like character died at the end, there's certainly enough wiggle room to get in a scene with Grandmaster.
You can watch Jeff Goldblum in Thor: Ragnarok anytime you like because the movie is currently on Blu-ray and Digital.
While the He-Man role is unconfirmed for now, if it happens it would be a big deal for Noah Centineo, as it would mark the actor branching out even further from his TV and streaming roots. While we wait to find out more about the actor's growing career, there are plenty of projects out there if you can't get enough of Centineo right now.
