A Popular Walt Disney World Attraction Is Making Its Way To Disneyland Resort

While there are many great attractions that exist at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World, there are also those that you can only experience if you visit one park or the other. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride hasn't been at Walt Disney World in a long time and the only remaining Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in North America is at Walt Disney World. Since 2003, if you wanted to experience the 3D film Mickey's PhilharMagic, you had to go to the east coast, or another country, but that's about to change, as the popular attraction will be making its debut at Disney California Adventure next month.

The show will open soon at the Sunset Showcase Theater in Hollywood Land. The location was the former home of Muppet*Vision 3D before being replaced by a Frozen Sing-Along Celebration in 2014. Since 2016 however, the location has been a theater without a theme that has been primarily used to show previews of upcoming Disney theatrical releases.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, Mickey's PhilharMagic will take place at the Sunset Showcase Theater, not replace it. This would seem to imply that this means the show will only be a limited engagement, rather than a new permanent attraction, though no official opening or closing date have been announced, so that's not clear.

The show is making the move during a year long celebration of Mickey Mouse, called Get Your Ears On A Mickey and Minnie Celebration, so if I were a betting man, I'd expect to see PhilharMagic hang around for the rest of this year at least.

While the name of the attraction is Mickey's PhilharMagic, the real star of the show is Donald Duck. All of your favorite classic Disney characters, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy are preparing a concert for the audience. Donald, while getting the orchestra ready to perform, picks up Mickey's sorcerer's hat from Fantasia, which results in a lot of magical chaos and ends up throwing the duck through a number of musical moments in classic Disney animated movies like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin.

In addition to the 3D film, a number of "4-D" effects, like water being sprayed at the audience, and various scents being pumped into the theater help deepen the immersion of the experience. The Muppet Theater was outfitted for at least some of these, so it's likely they'll make the jump to California.

Of the various 3D shows that have appeared at Disney Parks over the years, Mickey's PhilharMagic is absolutely one of the better shows, so seeing it be added to Disney California Adventure, in what has been a criminally underutilized space in recent years, is very nice. Hopefully, the show will hang around until something more permanent is created for the theater. The show may be 15 years old, but a decades old show is a better use of the theater than glorified movie trailers.

What Dwayne Johnson's Jungle Cruise Movie Is Going To Be About

Fresh off his stint as Dr. Smolder Bravestone in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is preparing to venture back into vegetation-filled terrain for Disney's Jungle Cruise, based off the ride of the same name. Johnson has been attached to the Jungle Cruise movie's lead for years, but within the last few months, the supporting cast has slowly been assembling. With today's latest casting addition though, we have our most detailed Jungle Cruise plot synopsis yet, and it will involve the main characters searching for a tree that possesses healing powers.

THR dropped the news that Edgar Ramirez, who was most recently seen playing Gianni Versace in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, has been cast in Jungle Cruise as a "man with a conquistador background" who will serve as one of the movie's villains. However, it's unclear if Ramirez's character will serve as Jungle Cruise's primary antagonist or if he'll be a supporting baddie, because in addition to wild animals, the protagonists will also have to contend with a competing German expedition looking for this tree. Ramirez's other credits include Carlos, Zero Dark Thirty, the Point Break remake and Bright.

While none of Jungle Cruise's main characters have been officially named yet, Dwayne Johnson's character, a boat captain, is rumored to be named Frank Francisco. He'll be teaming up with Emily Blunt's character, who is supposedly named Lily Houghton and is a scientist joining Johnson's character on the expedition to find this healing tree. Jack Whitehall has been cast as the brother of Blunt's character, and while it was originally reported that her brother's death is what inspires her to undertake this mission, it now appears that he will be joining her and Johnson's character on this exciting adventure. Jungle Cruise will be set in the Amazon jungle during the 1920s. The Shallows director Jaume Collet-Serra is helming the movie and Logan's Michael Green penned the most recent draft of the script.

Disney has had great success with taking rides from its theme parks and adapting them into movies, from Pirates of the Caribbean to The Haunted Mansion. If all goes well, Jungle Cruise could be another winner in this category of the Mouse House's film offerings, providing a timeless-feeling cinematic adventure packed with obstacles and threats lurking around every corner. With four actors now part of Jungle Cruise's cast, I expect the main lineup will be filled out within the coming weeks.

Jungle Cruise doesn't have an assigned release date yet, but production is expected to begin next month. Doctor Whos Matt Smith Denies Star Wars Episode IX Role

It's was just over six months ago when it was reported that, among the names like Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant and a returning Billy Dee Williams, former Doctor Who star Matt Smith was joining the cast of Star Wars Episode IX. We hadn't heard much since then, and the initial report seemed solid, so we all went on our merry way looking for more Star Wars details, but now it appears the initial report may not have been entirely accurate, as Smith himself now says he's not actually in the movie at all. According to Smith himself...

As far as I can tell, Im definitely not

The quote comes courtesy of the L.A. Times who recently sat down with Smith for an interview. While the profile doesn't go any further than Smith's single quote, the statement does appear to be quite definitive.

The initial report from Variety said little more than that Smith would be in the movie, no information on his character was revealed. Still the source tended to be accurate and there was no initial denial from Smith or anybody else that the story wasn't true. Of course, there also wasn't a confirmation and many of those who have been cast have been able to admit it, even if they can't say much more than that.

If we wanted to believe that the initial report was true, there is certainly room to parse Matt Smith's statement in a number of different ways. Maybe Smith is in Star Wars Episode IX, but he'll play an alien, meaning we'll never actually see the actor himself on the screen. Maybe Smith filmed a scene, but he's already aware that it will likely be edited out of the final cut, meaning he was going to be in the movie, but now he won't be. That would explain the odd "as far as I can tell" part of the statement.

Of course, Matt Smith could also be straight up lying. It wouldn't be the first time that somebody just lied about the truth of a movie in order to attempt to keep a secret. Episode IX is being directed by J.J. Abrams after all, the same guy who directed Star Trek Into Darkness, the film where everybody swore up and down that Benedict Cumberbatch wasn't playing Khan, before we all saw the movie and learned he was totally playing Khan.

While these things are possible, the more likely scenario is that Smith is telling the truth and he's not in Star Wars Episode IX. Maybe he was in talks to be in the movie but those talks fell through. The news that Matt Smith had joined Star Wars: Episode IX came within only a few days of the news that Dominic Monaghan had also joined the cast. Maybe they were both up for the same role, and Smith lost out, then the rumor mill got its wires crossed. It wouldn't be the first time that happened either.

Or maybe the whole things was just a bunch of crap.

We'll know the truth one way or another this December when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters.
