Avengers: Infinity War May Have Included Another Captain Marvel Tease
Fans were excited when the post-credits scene from Avengers: Infinity War became our first on-screen reference to Captain Marvel, who will debut in her own MCU movie early next year. However, it's possible that we may have actually received a reference to the character much earlier in the film. An eagle-eyed fan recently noticed that when we see Cull Obsidian and Ebony Maw face down with Iron Man and company in New York, Obsidian is wearing an oddly colored piece of fabric which bears a very similar color scheme to the logo we see at the end of the film. Check it out.
It's certainly true that the colors would seem to match. We've got the red and gold that are often associated with the traditional Captain Marvel costume. Although we don't see any blue which is also usually there. While Cull Obsidian does have some gold in his armor, and even a bit of red that's visible in this image, the fabric certainly does look a little strange, just hanging out there. It doesn't seem to go with the rest of the outfit, which could mean it's something Obsidian added to his armor later on.
The question is, if this is an intentional reference, (h/t to Reddit user u/Junt4 for picking it up) to Captain Marvel, is it just meant as a hint of what is to come for the audience or is there something more? Could this be an indication that Captain Marvel and Obsidian have had a run in before, and he keeps a piece of her costume as a trophy?
Also, since we don't know at this point what the origin of Captain Marvel's color scheme is, this could be something related to Captain Marvel without directly crossing paths with the character. If the Captain Marvel color scheme comes from some intergalactic organization that Carol Danvers will be working with, perhaps Cull Obsidian crossed paths with the group, though not necessarily the character.
It would certainly be interesting to learn that Carol Danvers and Thanos' Black Order had run into each other previously. Since we know that Thanos had worked with the Kree before, it wouldn't be a stretch to discover such a connection since the Kree will be the primary villain of Captain Marvel. Perhaps we'll see more of Cull Obsidian, or the rest of the Black Order, in Captain Marvel and we'll learn where the fabric came from. It's an exciting idea since the Black Order was pretty fun to watch, but didn't get nearly enough screen time in Avengers: Infinity War since there were so many other characters who needed their moments.
We'll have to wait until 2019 to get our answer. Captain Marvel hits theaters in March while Avengers 4 follows in May, or possibly earlier. We'll get the full story then.
