Watch Scott Lang Brag About Being An Avenger In New Ant-Man And The Wasp Footage
Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) has been through some crazy adventures over the last few years. The Ant-Man hero stepped into the spotlight to help Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) during the events of Captain America: Civil War, thus making him an honorary member of The Avengers roster. The moment clearly meant a lot to Lang, as new footage from Ant-Man and The Wasp has premiered showing Scott bragging about his Avenger status. Check out the newly-released preview, below!
This trailer features a large number of notable action sequences that have already appeared in other trailers for Ant-Man and The Wasp, along with one other obvious joke. Scott Lang has a bit of a chip on his shoulder after the events of Captain America: Civil War, even if that adventure did lead to his arrest. Now, with Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) asking for his help to take on the villainous Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Scott just wants everyone to know that he's now a member of The Avengers -- which is apparently something that he has repeated several times.
The decision to have Scott reference his time alongside other members of Marvel's most famous hero team seems like a stark contrast to the events of the original Ant-Man. Though The Avengers base of operations in New York did indeed play a significant role in the film's story, the first film in the series made a point to keep Earth's Mightiest Heroes at a distance while Scott focused on a smaller scale threat. Now that Scott has served as a member of Team Cap, however, the Ant-Man franchise seems slightly more willing to reference other Marvel heroes and embrace how connected he is to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe.
One other clear thing worth noting about this Avengers gag is the fact that it serves as a firm reminder of the type of movie we can expect when Ant-Man and The Wasp finally premieres. Many Marvel fans continue to reel from the devastating fallout of Avengers: Infinity War and Thanos' final move with the Infinity Stones, leading to one of the darkest Marvel movies yet. To balance out the tone, it looks like Ant-Man and The Wasp continues to lean into Paul Rudd's well-worn comedic chops, and it seems reasonable to assume that we can expect something a bit more lighthearted than the third Avengers movie.
Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne will team up when Ant-Man and The Wasp debutsin theaters next month on July 6.
