The Avengers Won't Let Batman Sit With Them In Funny New Conan Comic-Con Video
The debate of DC vs. Marvel is one of those long-running fan conversations that seem never to go away. That debate has only become more pronounced and profound with the boom of comic book movies, and the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, with San Diego Comic-Con in full swing, Conan has released a video showing Batman trying to join the Marvel universe, and it's absolutely hilarious. Check it out, below!
Assembling an all-star cast of comedic actors such as Workaholics' Blake Anderson, Anchorman's David Koechner, and I Love You, Man's Rob Huebel, Conan O'Brien's video shows the late-night host sitting with his fellow DCEU heroes before looking over at the Marvel Cinematic Universe's table to see how much fun heroes like Thor and Black Panther are having. Attempting to sit with the Marvel badasses and create the crossover of the century, Conan's Batman eventually finds himself the butt of ridicule as they make fun of the current dark atmosphere of the DCEU (especially the constant rain) and trick him into trying to lift Thor's hammer.
Of course, while this video is mostly at DC's expense, some great shots are eventually thrown Marvel's way as well. Specifically, when Conan sidekick Andy Richter shows up dressed as Batman sidekick Robin, the barbs come out, and DC goes on the offensive. From saying that the Iron Man suit is basically an iPhone case that Tony Stark can wear to calling the Black Panther vibranium suit a "kitty cat costume," Robin comes through with some awesome insults.
However, the joke that ends the video is one of the best, as it eventually moves away from strictly superhero comic book characters to see Riverdale's Jughead show up to hang out with the Marvel heroes -- who welcome him with open arms. He picks up Mjolnir to sit down and ends up becoming part of the gang as Batman is ridiculed away from the table.
This clip clearly aims a lot of the missteps that have taken place in the silver screen DC world in recent years, but it's worth remembering that the real-life DCEU has taken steps to course correct post-Justice League. A huge creative shift has taken place behind the scenes as new people have taken control at Warner Bros., and with films like Aquaman, Shazam!, and Wonder Woman 1984 on the horizon, things do like optimistic for many fans of this universe.
Make sure to keep it here for any and all relevant updates related to the comic book and superhero world as San Diego Comic-Con shifts into high gear this weekend. With Disney and Marvel mostly skipping the event, there is bound to be a massive wave of DC updates that could make Batman very proud of his home universe.
Superhero tropes galore, the film is a checklist of "what you need to have in a successful origin story" including a past that comes back to haunt our hero, a list of friends he meets along the way, and the dun-dun-dun of the closing credit sequence that assures more Aquaman will be headed our way.
